August 2011 update

Although the Rainschool site has been in existence for some time now, I have added nothing new to it for at least a year. It is still attracting large numbers of visitors despite this, so I hope that what follows will be welcome news:

During my absence from the site, I have nevertheless continued to be active in my professional work at the International Study Centre at the University of Sussex in the south of England, UK. My work here has focussed primarily on EAP – English for Academic Purposes – which I teach on foundation courses for non-native English-speaker students preparing to enter Sussex University.

During the next few weeks I remain very tied up with a summer pre-sessional course at the university’s Sussex Language Institute (SLI), after which I intend to install on the Rainschool site the online English class facility which I envisaged when Rainschool was first begun. I hope to see this become available during October.

In the meantime, I originally uploaded many exercises to Rainschool, some of which contain errors of English. I think this is unacceptable and I am therefore beginning a systematic audit, designed to try and root out errors in the exercises. I would therefore be delighted if you would contact me with any errors that you have noticed, to make my job easier!

Finally, at the same time as conducting this audit, I aim to find a little time to upload some new exercises, including some of the EAP material that I have created over the last few years.

Thanks to all of you from across the globe who have used Rainschool over the last years – good luck with your studies, and above all: enjoy your English!
