Below are more sentences to practice distinguishing whether to use adjectives ending in –ing or –ed.  Remember to ask: is the attendant noun active or passive, doing something or having something done to it/him/her/them?

 

 

 

1.    Many artists like to work with things that they find lying around – on the beach, for example. The term used for these is ‘finding/found objects’.

 

2.    The winning/won competitor received a silver cup and the title ‘Young musician of the year.’

 

3.    It can be difficult to wake sleeping/slept children, especially in the case of babies.

 

4.    The celebrating/celebrated Manchester United supporters smashed up several bars in the city centre last night.
