Make these two sentences into one, using a preposition plus a relative pronoun – which or whom

Example

 

The book is out of print. You are referring to it.

 

The book to which you are referring is out of print.

 

Now try these:

 

1. This is the cemetery. Karl Marx is buried in it.

 

 

2. Forest fires are something. We have very little control over them.

 

 

3. Dame Judith was a famous actress. I have already spoken about her.

 

 

4. General Smith will lead the attack. I have complete confidence in him.

 

 

5. The emerald comes from Brazil.   This ring has been made from it.

 

 

6. The fields have become a housing estate. I walked through them as a boy.

 

 

7. Rachel Reed is one author. I know nothing of her.

 

 

8. I have a cupboard.   I throw anything broken or unwanted into it.

 

 

9. The old bookshop was a treasure-house of rare books. I used to walk past it.

 

 

10. Robert Brown is a man. You can always have interesting conversations with him.

 

 

11.  Have you seen the new plans for the town centre re-development? According to those plans, there will be a huge new pedestrian precinct.               

 

12. The designs were approved yesterday. We had very little control over them.
