In the following sentences, there are two clauses. Bracket each clause and underline the conjunction joining them. NOTE: The conjunction may NOT be in the middle.
Examples:
0. I had no idea about life in China until I talked with Li.
…….. (I had no idea about life in China) until (I talked with Li)……….
00. Since it’s Marie’s birthday on Friday, she’s having a party.
……Since (it’s Marie’s birthday on Friday), (She’s having a party)……
Now try these:
1. Are we going to the beach, or are we staying in?
2. I’ll be late, darling, so don’t wait up for me.
3. Will you give me a call when you get off the plane?
4. I have a meeting with Bob at 11am and I’m driving to Beijing after lunch.
5. We’re going to the cinema tonight unless my car is still being repaired.
6. I tried to call you back, but you were out.
7. I’ll send you a fax, or I’ll come by your office about 4 o’clock.
8. The dog hasn’t stopped whining since I got home.
9. I’ll have another of those cream cakes if you don’t mind.
10. Before you book the holiday in France, can I have a look at the brochure?
11. The train was just leaving as they arrived on the platform.
12. This is Mr Clay who looks after publicity and marketing for the company.
13. It’s still raining but I’m going out.
14. I found my glasses where I least expected them – on my nose!
15. I’ve just bought a book which is really exciting.
16. I won’t be at work tomorrow because I’m going to the dentist’s.
17. If I get home before the shops close, I’ll buy a chicken from the deli.
